So long as the two parents completing this Guardian Nomination together both want to name each other as the first guardian, it doesn’t matter whether you’re married to each other or not, or if there is another parent in the picture.
What this covers:
You have the right to choose who would care for your kids in an emergency. Make sure your voice is heard. If you think it would be hard to choose someone, think how hard it would be for a judge to get it right for you.
How it works
- Choose a guardian for your child/children in case you are unable to care for them yourself for an extended period of time.
- If your preferred guardian is not in California, it’s even more important that you put your wishes in writing.
